I have been studying global macro for the past few years and so my approach to trading is weighted towards fundamentals, but with an element of technical analysis to identify my entry and exits, and overall current trends. News is not so important from a platform point of view as I use 3rd party sources for this, so its mainly efficient functionality with basic technical tools and indicators; pivot points, MA, RSI, ability to draw trend lines, support/resistance. Ideally the ability to work across multiple monitors also.
I have played around with MT5 in the past but found it was lacking something. I then tried CQG(M) desktop which I found felt a lot more smooth and professional, plus it is visually pleasing, but doesn't offer all the functionality I require, the most basic things such as drawing trend lines are not included. Looking on the forum CQG said they were working on including them asap, but this post was from 2016, its now 2019, so probably not forth coming any time soon. This platform does not allow a second/duplicate account to run on a separate window/monitor, or allow individual charts outside the work space (other monitors), making the working environment very crowded, and unable to clearly monitor different chart correlations.
At my place of study we use CQG integrated client, which has all the bells and whistles, but at just under $600 per month is far too expensive. The plus of CQGM is that its free! Just starting to play around with MT5 again I see a lot of features that mimic CQG integrated client, and the ability to undock charts across monitors is a plus. However I still feel that something is missing, it just doesn't feel comfortable to me, and it needs too for me to start putting money at risk. I wish there was a way to edit the DOM style as well, as even though this provides adequate information it just feels awkward and uncomfortable to use.
I have been seeing lots of mentions of Multi Charts, Sierra, and TT. But there are so many to choose from I will be here for the rest of 2019 trying and testing them all, which is the reason for me posting this topic, in the hope you guys can provide your experiences and preferences, both positive and negative, to help me avoid the waste of time platforms and focus on the 'hopefully' few good ones to narrow my search.
Anyone who can be bothered to take the time, your insight would be appreciated. Thank you.
